Museum of Childhood "Stathmos": Nafplio's Sweetest Museum
If you're travelling to Nafplio with kids — or you simply love nostalgia — "Stathmos" is the museum you shouldn't skip. It's housed in the old warehouse of Nafplio's railway station, inside the OSE park — already a charming spot with old train carriages, flower beds, and tables under the trees.
Greece's First Museum of Childhood
In October 1989, the then Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation (today the Vasilis Papantoniou Foundation) inaugurated "Stathmos" at the old railway station — the first space in Greece dedicated exclusively to childhood. The site was granted to the Foundation by the Municipality of Nafplio.
What You'll See
Antique and traditional toys — swings, roller skates, wooden rocking horses, dolls with prams — alongside everyday objects like baby bottles and rattles. Many exhibits come from private donations.
Since 2020, the museum has hosted the permanent exhibition "Pediothen...", presenting toys mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Why It's Worth It with Kids
Kites and drawings hang from the ceiling, colour fills the rooms — a warm atmosphere, not formally "museum-like." Pairs perfectly with a walk in the nearby OSE park.
