Traditional paved alley with neoclassical buildings and colorful flowers in Nafplio Greece

Nafplio in 2 Days: The Complete Itinerary

Two days is the ideal amount of time to see Nafplio without rushing, while leaving room for a day trip into Mycenaean Argolida. Here's how we'd plan it.

Day 1: Nafplio Itself

Morning (9:00-13:00): Palamidi
Start early, before the heat. Climb the 857 steps (not 999, as the legend claims) or drive up. Budget 1.5-2 hours total.

Midday (13:00-15:00): Flea Market or Lunch
If it's Wednesday or Saturday, the Flea Market is right at the foot of Palamidi.

Afternoon (16:00-18:00): Old Town & Psaromachalas
Get lost in the alleys of Psaromachalas, climb toward Acronauplia and the Clock Tower for the best view in town.

Sunset (19:00-20:30): Akti Miaouli & Bourtzi
Walk the waterfront, and if time allows, take the boat to Bourtzi — perfect light for photos.

Evening: Dinner at one of the waterfront or Syntagma Square restaurants.

Day 2: Mycenaean Argolida or Museums & Churches

You have two options depending on your interest:

Option A: Archaeology Day (for history lovers)

Morning:Mycenae — Lion Gate, Treasury of Atreus (2-3 hours)

Midday:Tiryns on the way back (45 minutes - 1 hour)

Afternoon:Nafplio Archaeological Museum — see the Dendra panoply, now knowing where it came from

Option B: Museums & Churches Day (more relaxed pace, within town)

Morning:Folklore Museum, then Stathmos if travelling with kids

Midday:Saint George and Saint Spyridon — the Kapodistrias story

Afternoon:Komboloi Museum or National Gallery

Practical Tips

  • Wear comfortable shoes — you'll walk a lot, especially on day one
  • Start Palamidi early in summer — no shade at all on the steps
  • If choosing Option A, start very early — Mycenae has no shade whatsoever
