3rd Acronauplia Festival 2026: Program & Events in Nafplio
Nafplio is getting ready for the 3rd Acronauplia Festival, returning this year from August 26 to September 6, 2026, under the artistic direction of Thodoris Gonis.
Organized by the Municipality of Nafplio, the festival has established itself as one of the region's most interesting cultural events, connecting local history and tradition with contemporary artistic creation.
This year's edition stands out for its expansion into the wider municipality — the opening will take place in the village of Iria, with the program spreading across several locations in the area. The festival also involves a collaboration with the University of Peloponnese and the Music School of Argolida, while this year's festival poster was illustrated by artist Dimitris Chantzopoulos.
Among the highlights is a theatrical performance dedicated to poets Andreas Embirikos and Matsi Hatzilazarou, who are brought together again, 86 years later, in Nafplio and at Bourtzi — the town's sea fortress. The text draws on the two writers' poems and interviews.
On September 6 at 20:00, near the Lion of Bavaria in Rosika, the event "The Serenading Companies of Nafplio: Music, Memory and Tradition (1920-1970)" will take place — a musical journey through the local tradition of Nafplio's serenading groups.
Note: the Acronauplia Festival is a separate event from the annual Nafplio Festival (held this year July 11-18) — don't confuse the two if you're looking for the program.
