Despite the fact that the village is far from the two major cities (28 km from Nafplion and 26 km from Argos) it retains its character and the permanent inhabitants.

The main occupation of most of the villagers is livestock farming and agriculture (tobacco production and harvesting of agricultural products). The old name of Arahnaio until 1915, was "Heli".
One view to the etymology of the name "Heli" appears to have Albanian roots, it is pronounced as if it were written with two X (Xheli) and means long wood that is used to make the spit, as there is a reference that some Arvanites were moved in 1463 From the Argolic plain to Heli, in a pre-existing settlement.

Over the years the inhabitants of the village have maintained the dialect and a cultural and demographic community, according to the population censuses that the number of inhabitants remains almost constant since 1833 with demographic data up to 2011, except for two periods in history Where in 1940 there was an increase in population and after World War II due to immigration abroad the population was re-established. The inhabitants still speak "Arvanitika", who have received certain Greek blends.

Another view of the name "Heli" is attributed to the inhabitants of Porto Heli, who founded the village and named it to remember their origin.
Arachnaion belongs to the municipal unit of Midea of the Municipality of Nafplio and appears under the name Arachnaio and according to the 2001 census it has 643 inhabitants.
